Floral Cabinet from Southern China

Floral Cabinet from Southern China

This four door red cabinet is hand painted in high detail with countless symbols of happiness. Each door has four seasonal flowers in auspicious vases, flanked on the corners with peonies. Above the flowers are two small vignette paintings of bridges, a common sight in South China.

The painted face of this cabinet is topped with the eternity knot, a symbol common in Tibetan Buddhism, which here represents eternal happiness. Additionally, the bottom center of the cabinet features a charming goldfish, another symbol of happiness and good fortune.
